Doniphan reader: Marriage, a dying breed
To the Editor
Our forefathers established our country under the guidance of GOD'S 10 Commandments, religious freedoms, and marriage being the joining together a man and woman in a lifelong commitment.
Marriage, this joining of a man and woman is GOD's arrangement, not man's. Therefore, those around the world who accept the Bible as GOD's divine word, accept these truths as being self-evident.
However, we as a people, must recognize that we are in a cultural war, wherein these basic truths are being attacked and undermined by those in our own society. There are over 320 million persons in the United States, wherein millions in each state have confirmed and made laws, acknowledging and confirming that marriage is a joining together a man and woman, yet, all it took was for one person, a federal judge to declare that these laws within each state be struck down. In that same manner, all it took was for five of the nine federal judges, in the Supreme Court, to declare same sex partners are valid in marriage throughout the entire United States. To top this off was for President Obama to have all the lights outside of the White House be different colors in support of these actions.
I, like many men and women, served in the military service to protect our freedom and religions, but, today I wonder if it was actually worth it. I served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired as an officer in the U. S. Army after the Vietnam War was over. I have always put my trust in my God and not so much in the nature of the human being.
Over the past half century, the winds of change have been blowing over America, and, have brought about a decided shift in the way quite a few people view marriage and divorce. Throughout our country, we are losing our basic freedoms which are being eroded away by the enemies of the home.
Unless we move back to the basic principles and freedoms that our country was established upon, things will be getting worse, more internal battles, more disasters, and, more negative happenings. If you do not believe this, all I have to say is, 'YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET.'
