Speak Out 3/12/15
Clean Qulin's dirty streets
I can't be the only person who has a comment about the city streets in Qulin. Maybe the schools should be moved to Fisk. At least their streets are clean.
Who vetted
Kaplan hiring?
Thank you, DAR, for doing the background work on the track record of our city manager, Heath Kaplan. It appears that the search committee city council were not as careful as they perhaps should have been. The news of the filing of a personal bankruptcy by Mr. Kaplan is the last straw. If this was not reported during the interview process he should be fired immediately for deception. If it was reported it should have raised serious concerns as to his consideration to be the manager of our city's financing. Please, DAR, find out who was involved in the selection and vetting process for this applicant and he fully and honestly reported all critical information about his qualifications, records and other relevant personal history. If he was deceptive and less than fully forthcoming on his resume, then fire him immediately before he does more damage. If the selection committee of city council was fully aware of his past then the city has even bigger problems than Mr. Kaplan.
Acoustics
are not good
Yes, the recent Veterans' Concert --whoever runs the acoustics down there at the Black River Coliseum needs to get the mics and music in sync. The music was entirely too loud and the mics so low you could not hear their voices or understand any word in their songs. Any time I've been there that has been a problem. Hope the veterans wasn't as unhappy as I was, but I think they would agree.
Would Kaplan
do grunt work?
I want to Speak Out about Don Schrieber. I didn't like what I read in the paper about him and the city manager. That was bad, you know. That city manager needs to know something--Don Schrieber used to throw Journal newspapers free to people. He used to throw those papers to people free all over Poplar Bluff outside of Poplar Bluff and other towns. Mr. Kaplan, would you do that? Would you get out there and throw free newspapers to people? You know, I don't think so. I don't even think the mayor would do that. She knows deep down it used to be a free paper and she knew who was behind it. Our publisher, Don Schrieber.
So, people, hey, he ain't in it for the money. He's in it for us. He cares about Poplar Bluff. He lives here. He knows. So, people, before you start passin' judgement and hiding things you need to open your eyes.
You need to get the old newspaper and read news. You need to get the old journals and read 'em because you might learn somethin'.
And, thank you, Mr. Schrieber, for being there. Thank you for doing what you're doin' and, hey, be who you are for the people!
Sensitive
to sunlight
Hello Speak Out. I just read a couple of articles about Kaplan and his city council. You know those folks sure are sensitive to sunlight. Almost reminds you of that TV show . . . Dracula.
Anyway, DAR, you need to just keep up the good work. Not that it's had any kind of affect on millions being wasted. Kaplan will be on his next job. I don't see why with the Sunshine laws being what they are you ought to print his complete resume or at least get a copy of it and do some serious research to if there's been any pertinent omissions. If so, then he was hired fraudulently and would be subject to immediate dismissal.
We got what
we voted for
Speak Out: It is what it is!
We the people of Poplar Bluff elected the City Council, so WHY complain?
We got what we voted for.
Ast. city mgr.
is not needed
We do not need an assistant city manager. We need a city manager with some common sense.
