PIEDMONT, Mo. -- Lareda Jo Barks, 72, of Piedmont, Mo., died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, in O'Fallon, Mo.

Mrs. Barks was born on Feb. 25, 1940, in Gideon, Mo., to Cecil Arlen Byers and Grace Estelle (Gregory) Byers. On Nov. 25, 1983, she was united in marriage to Ronald David Barks. Mrs. Barks worked as an assembler of electronic components for different factories in the St. Louis, Mo. area, as well as a book return specialist for ARA in St. Louis. She grew up in the St. Louis area, and made her adult home in St. Louis, Cahokia, Ill., Desoto, Mo., and Hillsboro, Mo. She and her husband owned the book store in Piedmont, Mo., for many years.

Mrs. Barks was an avid reader, she loved books. She was quite the gardener, she loved flowers and plants, both inside and outside the home. She found great pleasure in watching the hummingbirds. Mrs. Barks enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was an excellent cook.

She and her husband were former members of First Baptist Church. Recently, they moved their membership to the Patterson Baptist Church, where they attended with their grandchildren, Paul and Catherine Henson.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Barks of the home; one son, Joseph Cannon of Hillsboro; four daughters, Barbara and her husband, Mark, Waltz, of Iowa, Rebecca Cannon of Desoto, Teal Moore of French Village, Mo., and Jennifer Keal of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Larry and his wife, Ann, Byers of O'Fallon, Mo.; one sister, Myra and her husband, Milton, Mckellvey of Taft, Tenn.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 30, at Patterson Baptist Church in Patterson, Mo. Family will arrive at 9 a.m. and the public will be invited from 10 -11 a.m. A funeral service will be held afterwards at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Shiloh Cemetery at Shook, Mo.
