DONIPHAN, MO. -- Norman William Smith, 87, of Doniphan, Mo., died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Oregon County, Mo. He was a contractor/farmer. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing and traveling and was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Carter Hall #3 during World War II.
On May 26, 1951, he was married to Marjorie Ellen Stone in Bay, Ark. She survives. They had a double wedding with Lawrence and Martha (McDonald) Fagan.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ellen Sue Griffith of Springfield, Mo., and Norma Lee Smith Baker of Chesterfield, Mo.; two sisters, Vivian Yarber of Doniphan and Jane Bollenbacher of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Monday at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service with full military honors will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel with Brother Kent Wilfong officiating. Burial will follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
