Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center proudly announces the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new $173 million hospital to be located at the Eight Points Development site in Poplar Bluff, Mo., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.

"This is truly an exciting time for PBRMC, the community of Poplar Bluff and the entire region we serve," said Greg Carda, chief executive officer of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

"We've been working for the better part of three years to reach this point and begin construction on the new medical center. Many people in this community deservedly share in this momentous event for all the hard work and support they have provided. We invite the entire community to join us in celebration of this occasion and the first steps towards the completion of the new hospital," Carda said.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be at the actual site of the new hospital on the Eight Points development. It will be built on a 62-acre site located on the southwest corner of Oak Grove Road and Shelby Road. Speakers from the hospital, the city and the business community will make comments to honor the occasion, with the actual ground-breaking ceremony to begin at approximately 11:30 a.m.

"This is not just about the hospital. It's a celebration for and about the entire community and region, about our future success and the future of healthcare for our community. As we've said all along, this new hospital is not only a demonstration of PBRMC's commitment to bring the very best healthcare close to home, but also of our dedication and commitment to the future of our community and the long-term growth and success for the region," Carda said.

When completed, the new Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center will be a state-of-the-art, seven-story hospital offering 250 private patient rooms, enhanced technology, easier accessibility and an expansion of healthcare services, including emergency room, cardiac care and the addition of neurosurgery.

Parking for the general public will be in the First Community Bank parking lot. Shuttles will be available to transport guests to the groundbreaking site.
