Speak Out 8/28/11
Thank you,
Sheriff's Dept.
Speakout:
I would like to thank the Butler County Sheriff's Department for their efforts after the break-ins, as well as the alert citizens. I especially appreciated the respectful attention of Dep. Larkin and Investigator Thompson.
Unhappy
with cooks
Yes, I'm calling to complain about Walmart. Our super center here in Poplar Bluff. The way they fry their chicken - we have had two outings and we ordered them from Walmart. They need to hire new cooks. They fry it so hard you cannot eat it. Thank you.
Only God can fix nation's debt
I have come up with a solution for our nation's debt. The government and all its leader need to start paying tithes. Only God can fix it now.
Unhappy reader
Yes, this is in regards to the front page article on Monday's paper--Monday, Aug. 23 or 22nd. I am calling in regards to the photo on the front page. In my opinion, it was very rude and disrespectful to show a picture of a dead body floating in the river. It's disrespectful to the family of the deceased and it is not something I prefer to see on the front page of a paper that I buy on a daily basis. I just wanted to let you know that I was very offended and I'm sure I was not the only one who felt that way.
Raising taxes
I think it's pretty when Butler County is just like the government when they go to raise taxes on somebody, it's always on the senior citizens. I hope those people live long enough to become senior citizens and then they'll know how the rest of us feel. Thank you.
Beef up
speak out
You know, Wednesday's paper illustrates just exactly what the person that called into Speak Out talking about. Right above it, you've got an article by, yet again, Irma H. Epps. Is she a paid spokesman for the paper or a writer for the paper or does she just write letters to the editor occasionally? You seem very happy to print them, but yet you trim the Speak Out down to nothing and sometimes eliminate it all together in the daily paper. And, yet, again, you've got other pundits expressing opinion from the national level and that's what Speak Out is supposed to be--local people speaking out. I think you've just missed the point. Don't accept input from the same two individuals who might not have anything better to do than to write letters to the editor. Don't accept those same two people's letters all the time. Have a little variety and beef up the Speak Out a little bit. That's all I had to say. Just have a little variety. Bye.
