April L. Colburn, 45, of Broseley, Missouri, died Thursday, Dec.15, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mrs. Colburn was born Sept. 26, 1977, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Jerry Parson and the late Barbara Parson. She was lovingly referred to as “The Crazy Cat Lady.”...

The Poplar Bluff R-I Board approved two retirements, seven resignations, four terminations and 12 employments at their closed session meeting Dec. 15. There was one certified personnel retirement, that of Cynthia McIver, the IEP facilitator at Poplar Bluff Middle School. The only classified retirement was Sherry Jameson, nurse at Oak Grove Elementary School. Both retirements are effective at the end of the 2022-2023 school year...

Volunteers will be needed from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to prepare for Christmas dinner at the United Gospel Rescue Mission, but drivers are needed to deliver the holiday meal Sunday. “It’s going be a Sunday, everything will be just like Thanksgiving. Same time, 8 a.m. to 10:30 in the morning to get started for drivers,” said the Rev. Greg Kirk, executive director. “We need the two Ds: drivers and desserts. Poplar Bluff Police Department Michael Hunter, 53, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested at 7:36 a.m. Dec. 16, in the 600 block of West Victor Street. Hunter was booked in on a Butler County warrant for failure to appear on possession of a controlled substance with a $20,000 bond, a Warren County warrant for failure to appear on dangerous drugs with no bond set and additional charges of possession of amphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
