The Lion’s Club decided to sponsor Poplar Bluff High School’s upcoming All-State Choir performance, after being impressed during a Christmas caroling at the organization’s weekly luncheon.

Butler County Sheriff Brad Lee Hillis, 33, of the 300 block of County Road 527, reported at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, that a neighbor's dog attacked his turkeys. According to the report, the turkeys were in their pens when the dog, owned by Jessica Constantino, 31, attacked them, pulling out feathers and causing bleeding. City firefighters responded to 1010 Adam at 4:22 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, to reports of a smoke detector going off. According to the report, the alarm company was contacted before they arrived at the residence where they were told the owner, Mary Champion, had been cooking and set off the alarm.
