Security was tightened on Poplar Bluff High School's prom night as the nation came to grips with the aftermath of the April 1999 Columbine school shooting in Colorado during the month prior. 1999 prom security was overseen by the Butler County Sheriff's Department, Poplar Bluff Police Department and Troop E officers of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri State Water Patrol and campus police.  (DAR/Paul Davis)
