We need to live the truth
“What is truth?” This is the question that Pontius Pilate asked Jesus when Jesus proclaimed himself as the giver of truth. But today we have so many truths. How do we know which one is the real truth? I mean, we have the “truth” as told to us by those in power. We have the “truth” proclaimed by those who want to be in power. We have political truths and religious truths. Quite frankly, you can probably find a truth that fits your needs if you look hard enough.
I believe this may be a problem in the world. Everyone seems to be searching for their particular truth.
The thing is, there is only one truth, and he proclaimed it a long time ago. John 14:6, “I am the Way the Truth and the Life…” You can’t get more truthful than that. Yet so many try to deny the truth of Christ.
But if you want to find fault in the denial of truth, then look no further than your mirror. The problem with truth is us.
For 2,000 years we have each tried to establish the “truth” of Christ. We interpret and re-interpret the writings of the church founders. Each generation seems to feel the need to put their own spin on what Christ said. Each denomination has their own particular spin on the teachings of Christ.
Even today, in order to justify our lives and lifestyle choices, we spin what the Bible teaches to our advantage.
So, it makes sense that Pilate would ask, “What is truth?” Both in the church and in the world, people are asking, “What is the TRUTH?”
The truth is this; All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23), The wages of Sin is death (Romans 6:23), but Jesus came to the earth to save all who believe (John 3:16) because Jesus is the Truth, and the Truth brings Life (John 14:6)
Folks, you and I know what the truth is, we have just been awful at sharing that truth. Now we live in a world where sin is becoming the norm and right living is considered harmful. Professing Christ is becoming more difficult, even in the USA because the “thought police” and the “woke” mob want to suppress the truth of Christ. Why, you ask?
Because it means that those in power will lose power. Think about it, what if everyone lived in the truth? What if everyone started loving their neighbor and loving God? Well, we wouldn’t need anyone to be in power. If we are focused on helping our neighbor and living in Christ, wars would stop, bigotry, hatred, selfishness would be a thing of the past. We would need not fear the night. We would live in Christ.
We, the people of the church, need to get our act together. Instead of just listening to the Bible stories, we need to start living the stories. Instead of proclaiming the truth, maybe we need to live the truth.
Just a thought.
Shalom my friends. See you in church.
