The Car Gallery
Poplar Bluff museums have tales about us, our family and our history. I want to tell you some of those tales found within the museum walls.
Dennis Young is a collector. But what a collection he has. In his giant barn he has over 50 classic cars (14 corvettes), 33 motorcycles, signs, juke boxes, slot machines, bicycles, gas pumps, paintings and a dog. It is like walking through an episode of “American Pickers.” It’s a collection more than a museum, but the public is invited to visit by appointment.
Dennis is the owner of Young’s General Contracting and the Carpet Gallery located on PP Highway. His collection is stored in several locations but the main “Car Gallery” is located next to the “Carpet Gallery.”
Dennis has an amazing “rags to riches” story. Living on a farm, he started a contracting business. He attributes phenomenal success to his faith in God. Dennis began his current collection 1997. He moved it to PP Highway in 2003. His pride and joy is a 1958 hand-made red corvette convertible “pilot car” serial number 00002.
The Dennis Young Car Museum is located at the Young’s General Contracting and Carpet Gallery at 5100 PP Highway. Just call the office at 573-785-1501 for an appointment. Dennis and his staff are glad to give you a guided tour. Bring your camera. Tell them Mike sent you!
Mike Shane is a veteran, Poplar Bluff resident and board member for the Poplar Bluff Museum.
