The Scoop brings on its first guest
The Daily American Republic on Friday launched episode 4 of our new weekly podcast, The Scoop.
Our show will post episodes each Friday and is available as a free access item.
This week marked our first official guest, Dr. Aaron Cornman, the new superintendent of Poplar Bluff schools.
Cornman shared some important information for parents getting ready to send their children back to school.
It includes where to find information on open houses that will be held in August, and the roll out of a new app that will let parents and caretakers track their student’s bus ride.
Cornman is in the midst of his “listening, learn, lead” tour. This is listening to the community, learning about strengths and opportunities for the district and trying to lead from that point forward, he said.
“One of the big things people want to know is who are you and where are you from... I’m from Southeast Missouri, Bootheel born and raised. That’s the big thing, number one, where are you from and two, where do you see our district going and what’s on the horizon for the next month or so,” Cornman shared.
In addition to joining us for our podcast this week, Cornman also went this week visiting with Rotary Club members and attending graduation at Wheatley School for the Super Kids summer program.
In the main segment of this week’s podcast, assistant editor Samantha Tucker and assistant sports editor D’Courtland Christian talk about the big stories that were shared since our last episode. This includes the release of our 10 finalists for Difference Makers, who will be featured Aug. 12 in a special print project and honored Aug. 17 at our annual banquet at the Black River Coliseum. Tickets are available now for the banquet.
Christian shared news on the Three Rivers College all-academic team and about meeting the new girls basketball coach for Poplar Bluff schools.
Our episodes look at both news and sports stories, community activities and more.
You can find the podcast regularly on our website homepage, www.darnews.com. It is also be shared each Friday on our social media accounts. You can find the DAR and DAR Sports on Facebook and Twitter, as well as Instagram.
