Excited to step into my new role at the DAR
I can’t believe it’s been a year since I started working at the Daily American Republic. This May will mark my third year as a journalist and two years as a sports writer. Covering Butler County and the surrounding areas has been pretty good, and I’m hoping that will continue on the next part of this journey.
When I took the assistant sports editor position, it was all on a leap of faith, and so far, making the move has worked out for my family and me. After spending the last year as the assistant, I will step into my role as the main editor for sports effective immediately.
If I’m being honest, I never thought about being a lead editor because I enjoy being in the gym and a part of the action, and I know taking a position such as this wouldn’t allow me to do it as much. But knowing that the staff at the DAR is willing to trust me with the role, I saw no reason to turn it down.
As I said when I first arrived, I don’t care if you’re the worst team or the best team, my goal is to tell your story. Though I like how things have flowed so far, my overall goal is to enhance sports coverage. I’m sure many of you have seen me at a variety of games already this year. I intend to keep that going. If it’s a team we cover, I intend to spread the love to everyone.
I ask that you bear with me as I adjust to my new role. I want to thank all the coaches and players for making my job easier. Whenever someone new comes in, I understand that it takes a while to build trust, and I’m hoping it will continue to grow.
If anyone has a story idea or a travel team that’s done something great related to sports, please email or tell me about it. My job is to showcase the schools and the community when it comes to sports. I can’t keep up with everything, so I’m asking for help because, at the end of the day, it’s your story, and if I don’t know about it, it doesn’t get read. I believe every person has a story, and I will do everything I can to showcase area sports.
I hope the community has enjoyed my coverage so far, and I look forward to this next path with DAR Sports.
